FAIRFAX, VA - The AFCEA Educational Foundation is pleased to announce a generous $50,000 contribution from ManTech International Corporation to launch and endow the new MG Eugene C. Renzi, USA (Ret.)/ManTech International Corporation Teacher’s Scholarship Fund.

The MG Eugene C. Renzi, USA (Ret.)/ManTech International Corporation Teacher’s Scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing an undergraduate education degree for the purpose of teaching science, mathematics, or information technology at a U.S. middle or secondary school. Each scholarship award is $2,500. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen attending an accredited college or university in the United States as traditional, full-time students. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required, and in the event of numerous applications, preference will be afforded to applications submitted by wounded warriors/disabled veterans, then to honorably discharged veterans. Applications are available at http://scholarships.afcea.org.

The Renzi Scholarship honors MG Eugene C. Renzi, USA (Ret.). General Renzi was a distinguished lifetime member of AFCEA, serving as AFCEA International Chairman of the Board from 2003-2006, and participating on the AFCEA Educational Foundation Board of Directors. An expert in defense communications, Renzi retired from the U.S. Army in 1990 as director for command, control and communications systems, J-6, U.S. Pacific Command.

He had an extensive background in government business. He served for many years as President of ManTech’s Defense Systems Group and as a ManTech Senior Executive Vice President. Renzi joined ManTech in 1993 as vice president of Corporate Development and Senior Vice President of the ManTech Field Engineering Company.  He was named president of ManTech Telecommunications and Information Systems Corporation in 1996 and built that organization into a leading provider of advanced telecommunications systems. Under his leadership ManTech became recognized for its ability to provide worldwide engineering and technical support during contingency situations such as Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Restore Hope, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and counter-narcotics missions in North, Central and South America.

In 2006 he received a Distinguished Member of the Signal Regiment Award at a U.S. Army/AFCEA conference. General William S. Wallace, Commanding General, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, presented the award to Renzi which is for “prestigious or notable military or civilian persons who have made a special contribution or who have distinguished themselves in service to the regiment.”

“Gene was devoted to his family, his faith and his country – and he was a strong advocate of AFCEA and their education program,” said George J. Pedersen, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, ManTech International Corporation. “This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Gene and an excellent way to help advance the knowledge and scholarship of our nation’s youth.”

“Education is AFCEA’s number one priority,” comments Kent Schneider, President and CEO, AFCEA International. “We are pleased to honor the memory of our good friend Gene Renzi by presenting this scholarship in his name, preserving Gene’s legacy and commitment to education.”
