This 5 day course has been held on an annual basis since then at the NavCanada center in Cornwall. In 2011 the course was moved to Kingston Ontario returning to the traditional home of the jimmies though this time conducted at the spectacular Ambassador Conference Resort. This year s serial was attended by students from both public (majority from military and Government) and private organizations. Some of these included representatives from the Department of National Defence (DND) Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Correction Services Canada (CSC). The course provides instruction in all aspects of IT Security from technical to personnel to physical and organizational. It culminates with the students working as syndicates to complete and present the results of a detailed Threat and Risk Assessment (TRA) case study to senior management (their instructors) which provides the occasional moment of hilarity and more than a few chuckles. The course is supported by a number of core instructors additionally a large number of the instructors are working professionals brought in specifically for their expertise. All of the instruction and support is provided on a volunteer basis. Following military tradition the course has a formal banquet and keynote address. This past year s keynote speaker was Mr. John Weigelt National Technology Officer Microsoft Canada who provided an insightful and engaging presentation on cyber threats coupled with future trends in technology. Special thanks go to the staff of the Ambassador Resort who made the effort to camouflage the front lobby for the duration of the course as seen below in the course photo. Course dates for 2013 have already been set as November 18 22 2013 in Kingston. Hope to see you there.
