AFCEA Hawaii July Luncheon Hawaii Chapter
07/09/2013 USMC, Pacific, Marine Corps, Rebalance, MARFORPAC,
Brigadier General Simcock will be providing an overview of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific (MARFORPAC), as well as their role in the Marine Corps┐ rebalance to the Pacific. As the Marine Corps adjusts its force lay-down in the Asia-Pacific region to support the President┐s Strategic Guidance for the Department of Defense issued in January 2012, U.S. Marine Corp Forces Pacific is key to achieving that goal. The Marine Corps seeks to have balanced capabilities strategically located between Hawaii, Guam, Japan and Australia so they can train, exercise and operate with allies and partners, and to be able to respond to crises and promote security cooperation across the region. MARFORPAC is focused on reassuring allies, deterring aggression, responding to small-scale contingencies and assisting partner nations in their efforts across the region. MARFORPAC remains responsive by being forward deployed and by training throughout the region with other nations┐ militaries that share similar interests. Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam and India are all interested in developing expeditionary and amphibious capabilities, and the U.S. Navy-Marine Corps team is their training partner of choice. Brig. Gen. Simcock will also touch on Marine Rotational Force-Darwin, Defense Policy Review Initiative, Unit Deployment Program resumption, the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, and the F-35B Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter) aircraft.
Location: Hale Ikena Club, Fort Shafter, Honolulu, HI
