Middle East and African Governments Order Z Backscatter Vans

American Science and Engineering Inc., Billerica, Mass., recently announced the receipt of orders for five of the company’s top-selling Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) for Middle East and African government agencies. The ZBV cargo and vehicle screening systems will be used for counterterrorism missions. 

AS&E Awarded Contract for X-Ray Trailers

American Science and Engineering Incorporated, Billerica, Massachusetts, recently announced the receipt of a $3.1 million order from the U.S. government for the service and maintenance of ZBV Military Trailers (ZBV Mil Trailers), rugged X-ray screening systems built onto standard military trailers. With one-sided Z Backscatter imaging, security officials can use the ZBV Mil Trailer for screening vehicles, containers, and other cargo for terrorist threats and contraband simply by towing the trailer past the subjects, or by remaining stationary while vehicles drive past the trailer. The ZBV Mil Trailer produces photo-like images of the contents of a container or vehicle, highlighting high-risk organic materials, such as explosives.

U.S. Army Awards Support Contract for Vehicle Inspection Systems in Afghanistan

American Science and Engineering Incorporated, Billerica, Massachusetts, was awarded a firm-fixed-price indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract valued at about $32 million. The award will provide for the modification of an existing contract to provide on-site maintenance and sustainment on Non-Intrusive Vehicle Inspection Systems Z backscatter vans. Work will be performed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Billerica, Massachusetts, with an estimated completion date of June 27, 2012. The U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity.
