Northrop Grumman to Upgrade Radars on Swedish Patrol Boats

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit, Charlottesville, Virginia, has won a contract to upgrade the navigation radars on five Swedish navy patrol boats. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will retrofit each ship with two dual-band interswitched chart radar systems with navalized display features. The systems are based on Sperry Marine's advanced VisionMaster FT navigation technology with WideView multifunction displays. The initial contract includes five ships with options for six additional ships, plus a spare system, spare parts, service and maintenance. CA Clase Marinelektronik AB, Sperry Marine's sales and service representative in Sweden, will be responsible for installing, commissioning, testing and technical support for the project.

Raytheon Receives Radar Contract Modification

The Missile Defense Agency recently announced the award of a $14 million sole-source contract modification to Raytheon Company, Woburn, Massachusetts. The total contract value is nearly $2 billion. Raytheon will perform the engineering and developmental effort required to maintain software required to operate the AN/TPY-2 radars.

U.S. Navy Modifies AN/SPQ-9B Radar Contract

Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, Garden City, New York, is being awarded a $30 million modification to previously awarded contract for the delivery of AN/SPQ-9B radar sets and combat interface kits for use on Navy ships. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

Navy Adds $150 Million to Research Contract

The Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory, State College, has been awarded a $150 million contract modification to increase the contract ceiling, providing up to 1,560,000 additional staff hours to provide research, development, engineering, test and evaluation. The core areas include guidance, navigation and control of undersea systems, advanced thermal propulsion, materials and manufacturing technology, atmosphere and defense communications and other related technologies. Research and development areas include, but are not limited to, missiles, radar, sonar, space, undersea warfare, anti-air warfare, command, control and communications, and other related technologies. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

Raytheon Provides Electronically Scanned Array Radars

Raytheon Company, Space and Airborne Systems, El Segundo, California, is being awarded a $52 million contract modification for the procurement of 19 AN/APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radars to be retrofitted into F/A-18E/F aircraft Lots 26-29. The AN/APG-79 AESA radar, which will replace the APG-73 radar, will provide increased air-to-air detection and track range, increased air-to-ground targeting capabilities, longer launch range for standoff weapons, enhanced capability against advanced threats, and optimized utilization of the aircraft's weapon systems contributing to the F/A-18E/F's survivability. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

SELEX to Provide Air Traffic Control Systems to Kuwait

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, signed a contract valued at $16 million to provide the Kuwait General directorate of civil aviation with air traffic control systems. The company will equip the international airport of Kuwait City with an ATCR-33/S primary radar, an SIR-S secondary radar and a ground station Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast system, a high-performance system for en-route, terminal area and airport surveillance applications. The contract, which will last about three years, also includes the supply of the logistic and post sales support and the relevant civil works.

Missile Defense Agency Modifies Raytheon Radar Contract for More Than $189 Million

The Missile Defense Agency recently announced the award of a contract modification of more than $189 million to Raytheon Company Integrated Defense Systems, Woburn, Massachusetts. Under this modification, Raytheon will fabricate AN/TPY-2 radar #8.

DRS Receives Gigabit Ethernet Multiplex System Contract for U.S. Navy, Australia

DRS ICAS Limited Liability Company, Buffalo, New York, is being awarded a potential $20 million contract for production of AN/USQ-81(V) gigabit ethernet multiplex system (GEDMS) shipsets for new construction and in-service Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) class destroyers, an Australian land based test site, associated installation and checkout repairs, and related GEDMS hardware for Wasp (LHD 1) class and Whidbey Island (LSD 41) class ships and the AN/SPA-25 radar program. GEDMS is a mission critical ship-wide data transfer network that is a key enabler for the DDG modernization program. The network transfers inputs/outputs for the machinery control system, damage control system, steering control system, AEGIS Combat System, navigation displays, and interior communication alarms and indications. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren, Virginia, is the contracting activity.

SELEX Wins Colombia Contract to Upgrade Radar

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, was awarded a contract by the Aeronautica Civil de Colombia, for the upgrading of the radar system set in Cerro Maco, near San Jacinto, in the region of Bolivar. The contract, which has a value of about 5.2 million euros (about $6.6 million), refers to the hardware and software upgrading of the ATCR 22M primary radar and the SIR-M secondary radar.

FLIR Systems to Support U.S. Navy Thermal Imaging Efforts

FLIR Systems Inc., North Billerica, Massachusetts, is being awarded an $8 million contract for non-warranty repairs and spares for the maritime forward looking infrared radar; high-power microscopic field; and MicroStar systems. These systems are to provide maritime crafts, ground vehicles, and unmanned aircraft with all-weather, day/night, high-resolution, stabilized, forward-looking infrared thermal imaging capability to augment existing optical and radar sensors by imaging enemy forces on land, at-sea and in the air, particularly during periods of darkness and poor visibility. These systems enhance the detection, recognition, identification and tracking targets. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Indiana, is the contracting activity.
