FY07 CHAPTER INITIATIVE PROPOSALS
"Programs in Action"
San Diego Chapter Initiative
With the help of an Educational Foundation Chapter Initiatives Grant, the San Diego Chapter supports several Robotics Clubs in local middle and high schools. The starting and running of Robotics clubs as an after-school activity is considered to be one of the most comprehensive and addictive programs that has permeated high schools in this decade and it encompasses many diverse fields. These Robotics Clubs need financial support and they need mentors. The Chapter currently supports two organizations that support local Robotics clubs in San Diego. The first one is called “The First Robotics Club” which is for school clubs at an advanced level and participates in local, National and International competitions. The other club is called “The Botball Club” which caters to schools that are just starting Robotic clubs. This year and last year, the Chapter invited the local high school and college clubs to make a live robot presentation during the monthly AFCEA luncheon. This was a huge success and plans are to continue this practice every year to encourage more students to seek careers in Engineering.
