What is Cycle for STEM?

It is not a race!  Cycle for STEM is a biking adventure that follows the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Towpath, which are linked together to provide the longest non-motorized hiking/biking trail in the United States.

July 2014, 40 cyclists will make the ride from Pittsburgh to D.C. to be joined on the last day’s ride by 60 more cyclists.  In addition, there will be a “fun ride” in which friends and family members will assemble at the finish line and cycle (or pedal) out to meet the riders – all riding across the finish line together.

Fall 2015, the Pittsburgh to D.C. ride will continue to grow to become an iconic ride, and AFCEA Chapters will launch AFCEA Cycles for STEM rides – creating AFCEA Cycle for STEM Around the World.

All donations made to support Cycle for STEM are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by federal law.  The AFCEA Foundation is a

501 ( c) (3) not for profit organization.

THANK YOU, SIGNATURE SPONSORS!!

STEM Teaching Tool Grants for Chapters

To Chapter Presidents & Regional Vice Presidents:

The STEM Teaching Tools Grant program has been a cornerstone program for the Educational Foundation.  We can collectively and proudly state that the grants provided by the Foundation, combined with your chapter contributions have impacted thousands of students and total hundreds of thousands of dollars.  You continue to do amazing work to develop relationships with local schools and foster the awareness and importance of STEM disciplines.

Due to continuing budget constraints, we are re-evaluating the STEM Teaching Tools grant program.  For the upcoming academic year 2014-2015, the schedule for disbursement of grant checks to the chapters will remain the end of September 2014.

However, to be eligible for a grant next year, your chapter must make an award in the current academic year (2013-2014) and submit your summary by August 31.  If your award was already made and you have not already done so, please complete the online form at https://www.afcea.org/dynform/forminp.jsp?fid=5692.  Your feedback continues to be extremely valuable and important to the success of the program.  We want to have the most current data available in discussions with potential sponsors, and be able to highlight the range of projects supported by the grants.

Additionally, the Foundation has consistently provided grants of $1,000.  They will likely be reduced; the amount to be determined.

Thank you for your continued support of the teaching tools program and all that you do to promote the study of STEM and information technology disciplines.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
