Afghanistan and Iraq War Veterans Scholarship (2003-Present)

Scholarships of $2,500 are offered to active-duty and honorably discharged U.S. military veterans and reservists and National Guard personnel of the Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom Operations (years 2003-present).  Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited four-year institutions in the United States.  Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible. Freshman and senior level students are ineligible to apply.

Note: high school students are not eligible to apply


Co-sponsored by the AFCEA Northern Virginia Chapter and the AFCEA Educational Foundation, the AFCEA War Veterans Scholarship fund has been endowed in perpetuity by a generous contribution from the Northern Virginia Chapter.


Scholarships will be available for the fall and spring semesters.

*Scholarship awards are subject to availability of funding.  Scholarship awards are restricted to tuition, mandatory fees, and books.


This information is in effect for the 2015-2016 school year.


Applications are requested from U.S. Armed Forces and National Guard personnel either currently on active-duty or honorably discharged veterans or reservists who have served in either Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan or Iraqi Freedom (years 2003-Present). 

Applicants must be currently enrolled and attending classes at four-year accredited college or university in the United States.  Students may also be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with a major, accredited four-year college or university in the United States.

Applications will be accepted from qualified sophomores and juniors, undergraduate students enrolled either part-time or full-time in an eligible degree program.  Freshman and seniors are not eligible to apply.

Candidates must be majoring in the following or C4I-related fields related to the mission of AFCEA:

Biometry/Biometrics, Computer Engineering, Computer Forensics Science, Computer Programming, Computer Science, Computer Systems, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Geospatial Science, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Resource, Management, Intelligence, Mathematics, Network Engineering, Network Security, Operations, Research, Physics, Robotics Engineering, Robotics Technology, Statistics, Strategic Intelligence, and Telecommunications Engineering

3.0 GPA required. Primary factors considered in the selection process are demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and financial need. 

A copy of either a Certificate of Service or Discharge Form DD214 will be required.

In addition to the online application, other required documents include: current transcript issued by the school Registrar's Office and at least two letters of recommendation from relevant faculty.

Instructions for electronic submission of the recommendation letters will be provided to the endorsers as part of the on-line application process - please do not mail separately. Letters will be addressed to:
