Camp Pendleton/North County Chapter The chapter sponsored and promoted an active education program during 2011 and looks forward to continuing the programs in 2012. The chapter supports the AFCEA Education Foundation’s “Wounded War Veterans Scholarship” program. In 2011, the chapter received and forwarded onto AFCEA generous gifts of $5,000 from both QinetiQ-North America Corporation, and the Gunnarson-Spraker Foundation. For 2012, we will be able to continue with the recurring Gunnarson-Spraker gift. These donations contribute to the awarding of $2,500 education scholarships to our nation’s injured service men and women.
The chapter also supports the AFCEA Science Teaching Tools (STT) grant program by holding a competition among the 11 local high schools in the Camp Pendleton area. Each school’s entry describes how they would best use the Grant to make improvements to their science programs. For 2011, the chapter selected two winning high schools of the $1,000 STT awards. For 2012, the chapter hopes to increase the number of winning schools selected for the STT grants.
The chapter runs a High School Senior’s Scholarship program. Working with high school guidance counselors at 11 local High Schools in the Camp Pendleton area, the chapter awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from each school. Candidates are selected based on their pursuit of an engineering or science degree at a four-year college. The chapter looks forward to continuing this program for 2012.
Our chapter proudly sponsors the I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) Communications Training Center (CTC-1) Radio Supervisor and Telecommunications Supervisor Courses taught at Camp Pendleton.
