California

Camp Pendleton/North County Chapter

The chapter plans to expand Science Teaching Tools grants to include eleven High Schools that support the Camp Pendleton Community.  Two local High School Science Departments, via competitive submissions to the chapter, will be selected based on how the $1,000 Grant would benefit the individual classroom.

The Chapter honors the I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Communications Training Center (CTC)-1 Radio and Wire Supervisor Courses with one-year memberships to AFCEA for the top three graduates from each course. Additionally, the Honor Graduate from each course is presented with a Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer's (NCO) Sword. There are 10 courses scheduled for 2010.

One first-time gift of $5,000 from QinetiQ-North America Corporation, and a recurring $5,000 donation from the Gunnarson-Spraker Foundation, each with matching funds from AFCEA, will support the Educational Foundation’s Disabled War Veterans Scholarship Program in 2010.  These donations will greatly assist the education efforts of our nation’s injured service men and women.

Working with High School Guidance Counselors at ten local High Schools in the Camp Pendleton area, a graduating senior from each school will be selected to each receive a $1,000 Scholarship. Candidates will be selected on the basis of their pursuit of a degree in engineering or science at a four-year college.
