Veterans of Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Iraqi Freedom Scholarship

In December 2005, the AFCEA Northern Virginia (NOVA) Chapter contributed $100,000 to the AFCEA Educational Foundation to establish the Iraqi/Afghanistan War Veterans Scholarship Fund.  The scholarship fund awards $2,500 annual scholarships to qualified Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen.  The AFCEA Educational Foundation is pleased to co-sponsor this scholarship opportunity for U.S. War Veterans.

The NOVA Chapter sees its $100,000 as the first installment in a campaign to raise $1Million over the next five years that will generate 20 scholarships for veterans every year in perpetuity. 

The NOVA Chapter challenges corporations, other AFCEA chapters and individuals to contribute to the War Veterans Scholarship Fund by making a contribution to the NOVA Chapter or the Educational Foundation.  For more information about this cosponsored scholarship, please contact Norma Corrales, director of scholarships and awards, AFCEA Educational Foundation at Email or visit www.afcea.org/education/scholarships or www.afceanova.org.

Information stated below is in effect for the 2009-2010 school year.

Scholarships of $2,500 each are offered to active-duty and honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (to include Reservists and National Guard personnel) of the Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) or Iraqi Freedom operations who are actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited two- or four-year institutions in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible.

PLEASE NOTE:  This scholarship is offered twice annually; however, individuals may be awarded only one AFCEA scholarship per year.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be currently enrolled and attending either a two-year or four-year accredited college or university in the United States.  Applications will be accepted from qualified freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior undergraduate students enrolled at the time of application either part time or full time in an eligible degree program as stated below:

Candidates must be majoring in the following or C4I-related fields of electrical, aerospace, systems or computer engineering; computer engineering technology; computer network systems; information systems security; computer information systems; information systems management; technology management; electronics engineering technology; computer science; physics; mathematics; or science or mathematics education.  Majors directly related to the support of U.S. intelligence or national security enterprises with relevance to the mission of AFCEA will also be eligible.

PLEASE NOTE: At least two letters of recommendation will be required from field-of-study professors.

Instructions on electronic submission of the Recommendation letters will be provided to the endorsers as part of the on-line application process.  Letters will be addressed to:

An official transcript reflecting all college-level study will also be required by the deadline date.  All items must arrive by the deadline date - electronic submissions in pdf format preferred.
