Foreword

After 2005 this was the second time that AFCEA Europe held a conference in Portugal and this time on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Portugal Chapter. TechNet International 2013 was held on 23-24 October at the Lisbon Congress Centre and focused on “Go Connected + Go Smart = Zero Distance”.

“Connecting Forces” is key for operational success of coalition forces and “Smart Defence” is essential to get the appropriate state-of-the art equipment fielded in times of tight budgets!  “Zero Distance” is a consequence of high-end communications and information technology having already been procured or planned for use by NATO forces in the near future. AFCEA Europe took the opportunity of this year’s TechNet International to discuss and combine these aspects in a comprehensive event layout. A two-day conference with highly experienced and well respected top specialists from military, industry and academia went hand in hand with an exhibition to allow a close look at leading edge hard- and software applications as well as in-depth discussions in reserved meeting areas and during conference breaks. Beyond that, enjoyable social events allowed intensive networking and/or relaxation after busy working hours.

This year’s TechNet International was organized under the Patronage of the Minister of Defence, Portugal and in cooperation with the NATO Communications and Information (NCI) Agency.

J. Spargo & Associates have been appointed by AFCEA as the official operational management company for the exposition and sponsorship.
