National security is continuously being redefined as awareness of the cyberspace domain evolves. Cyber threats and challenges grow every day. Successfully defending our networks requires a team approach. With this in mind, the AFCEA Cyber Symposium will engage the key players, including the U. S. Government, the International Community, Industry and Academia, to discuss the development of robust cyberspace capabilities and partnerships.
The AFCEA International Cyber Symposium 2014 focuses on the critical missions of U.S. Cyber Command and the interface with Army Cyber Command, Marine Corps Forces Cyber Command, 10th U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, 24th Air Force Cyber, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, DoD-CIO, National Security Agency (NSA), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Academia, Industry partners. The operational theme "Protecting a Nation's Cyber Security: Leveraging Technology, Shaping Operations, Training the Force" will explore the operational security of DoD and Industry Networks, Cyber Operations with Joint and Coalition partners, and discuss the training and development of the cyber workforce.
Panel discussions will focus on critical infrastructure information sharing between the Department of Defense and Industry; Interoperability, C2 and Collaboration across Joint Forces and Allied nations; Joint Information Environment, and organizational cohesion for full spectrum assured operations.
The conference will also feature three engagement theaters on the exhibit floor focused on engage and innovate; educate and train; and secure, operate and defend. Many of the panel and theater sessions are designed to help sustain DoD 8570.01-M mandated certifications. Attendees may receive documentation for CompTIA CEUs and GIAC CPEs, by attending and getting their event badge scanned at the close of each qualified session. Event attendance may also satisfy other continuing education requirements. Please contact the appropriate oversight organization for determination. Some applicable organizations might include: National Contract Management Association (NCMA) and ISC2, Project Management Institute (PMI). In addition, more than one hundred industry exhibitors will demonstrate products and solutions to meet the Services' requirements and needs.
AFCEA International Cyber Symposium registration for active duty military and civilian government is free. AFCEA International, established in 1946, is a non-profit, non-lobbying organization serving its members by providing a forum for the ethical exchange of information, and dedicated to increasing knowledge through the exploration of issues relevant to its members in information technology, communications and electronics for the defense, homeland security and intelligence communities.
Due to sequestration and our desire to help enable Government and Military Employee participation, AFCEA International has updated their event attendance guidelines. It is the opinion of AFCEA International that in accordance with 5 CFR 2635.203(b)(4), all Government employees (including military personnel) may attend this event at no cost and may accept meals and refreshments available to all Government employees at a nominal charge. This opinion is based on the fact that the conference is open to all Federal employees with an interest in the subject matter.
