Host Based Security System (HBSS)
SICD
On March 27, 2007, the DoD Enterprise-wide Information Assurance and Computer Network Defense Solutions Steering Group (ESSG) approved the HBSS for full-scale deployment throughout the DoD enterprise. HBSS will allow the Army to integrate existing security products and capabilities, eliminate redundant management process, and enhance end-point security through a unified security product and management suite. HBSS adds an additional layer to the LandWarNet (LWN) defense-in-depth strategy and provides the means to implement Information Operations Conditions (INFOCON) as defined by US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). JTF-GNO CTO 07-12, Deployment of Host Based Security System (HBSS) released on 9 Oct 07 mandates that HBSS be deployed on all Component Command, Service and Agency networks. CTO 07-12 mandates that HBSS be installed on NIPR Networks by 3QFY08. The Army’s goal is to install HBSS on 100% of all Enterprise NIPR and SIPR workstations and servers that have a Microsoft operating system platform or to have a coverage plan in place for those systems without HBSS to ensure that they maintain the security level that HBSS provides. The HBSS Enterprise solution will be deployed down to the Tier III level. Army Publishing Content Management System (APCMS)
Army Publishing Directorate (APD), on behalf of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army, has raised the bar for transforming business processes across the Army enterprise with the deployment of the Army Publishing Content Management System (APCMS). These enterprise tools available at no cost to approximately 1.7 million people within Army communities include XML-based PureEdge software that can be used to fill, edit, print, and save forms automated with varying degrees of functionalities and Silanis ApproveIt software to digitally sign forms and other documents. APCMS available via the “My Forms” button on the Army Knowledge OnLine (AKO) homepage, has over 2000 Department of the Army (DA) PureEdge forms that can be routed electronically from the “My Forms” online location, saving countless labor hours, eliminating lost documents, providing online reporting and tracking of forms, and significantly improving the Army’s ability to support soldiers deployed anywhere in the world. Additionally, digital signature enabled forms can now remain electronic through the business process eliminating the need to fill, print, sign, and scan the forms for electronic submission. APCMS is implementing structured workflow tools that allow users to route and track forms and documents to the same groups or organizations over and over again without having to search for specific people. These workflow tools work together with the enterprise content management (ECM) system that is the underlying infrastructure of APCMS to help automate the business process and enable event driven decision points. By combining both the ECM and the workflow tools, organizations can maximize their performance with ease and flexibility. Records management and email archive capabilities are being piloted. These capabilities will allow organizations to archive their documents and emails based on records retention rules and policies. The capabilities being explored will allow users to easily store, search, and retrieve information for later use, as the need arises. Both capabilities are rule based and designed to archive automatically, without any additional effort by end users. |
