Transforming the Army into a Culture of Collaboration through Strategic Communication

ModeratorDr. Robert E. Neilson, Army Knowledge Management Advisor, CIO/G-6

This break out session will address the essential elements of an effective Army Knowledge Management (AKM) strategic communications plan:  1) define an  AKM message tagline 2) what should an AKM logo contain 3) what are placement and promotion factors in getting the AKM message out to the Army.  How well our soldiers and civilians can inculcate the 12 AKM Principles will determine the degree of success we achieve in moving toward a culture of collaboration.  Information technologies alone cannot fully optimize the collaborative potential of an organization until knowledge sharing becomes a standard and shared behavior among all the workers.  Obviously, training is a critical component in achieving a knowledge enabled work force.  However, in addition to training, an effective strategic communications plan is necessary for an organization as large as the Army to facilitate a message that enforces the principles of AKM.  This breakout session will help participants understand how to develop a successful communications line of operation within their own organization based upon the CIO/G6's effort to implement the AKM Principles.
