Achieving a Global Configuration Management Database/Service Support (CMDB/SS) Capability

Mr. Malcom Cannon and Mr. Tim Ash, 9th Signal Command (Army), Enterprise Plans & Engineering

NETCOM Enterprise Plans and Engineering is leading the effort to deploy a global Army Enterprise CMDB/SS capability to support Army IT Service Management and NetOps across all Army theaters of operations.  The CMDB/SS is a key capability defined within the LandWarNet NetOps Architecture (LNA).  The CMDB/SS solution is based on the BMC Remedy Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) product suite which supports Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Best Business processes. This implementation includes the integration of standard Organizations (e.g. DOIM and NOSC) ITIL Based Business Processes (Service Request Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Asset Management and Service Level Management) and Technology to establish an Army Enterprise standard capability.  This initiative includes standard training and development of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs).

This three part Information Exchange Forum (IEF) provides an overview of the Army Enterprise Remedy ITSM Implementation, key features, and benefits to include support to DOIM IT Service Management and C4IM Metrics Reporting, Area Processing Center (APC) Services Management, and the Network Service Center concepts and objectives. A demonstration of the configured Remedy ITSM capability will be presented followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session to address questions and comments from the forum attendees.

Army Systems Management (SYSMAN) employing Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 and Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 with 3rd Party Extension

Ms. Susan Monahan, 9th Signal Command (Army), Enterprise Plans & Engineering

NETCOM led by the Enterprise Systems Technology Activity (ESTA) is leading the effort to deploy the GNEC standard Army Enterprise Systems Management (SysMan) capability for NIPR and SIPR to provide computing platform management for all servers, desktops, and laptops.  Microsoft SCCM 2007 and SCOM 2007 with 3rd Party extensions will be the primary systems for computing platform discovery, tracking, management, monitoring, mapping (display), event processing, failure detection, isolation, and analysis of LandWarNet computing platforms and services associated with those platforms.  Deployment of a SysMan (SCCM/SCOM with 3rd Party extensions) solution will have positive effects on the supportability of the Army Enterprise Network, providing enterprise IT computing platform visibility, IAVM and AGM software delivery and global response capability.  An Enterprise solution will provide the ability to support decision making processes related to operational missions, technology insertion and portfolio management worldwide.  This Information Exchange Forum (IEF) provides an overview of the Army Enterprise SysMan Implementation, key features and benefits followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session to address questions and comments from the forum attendees.

Host Based Security System (HBSS)

Ms. Tara Bessard, 9th Signal Command (Army), Enterprise Plans & Engineering

JTF-GNO CTO 07-12, Deployment of Host Based Security System (HBSS), released on 9 Oct 07 mandates that HBSS be deployed on all Component Command, Service, and Agency networks.  In addition, Frago 13 Change 1 mandates that HBSS be installed on NIPR and SIPR networks by 31 Oct 09.  The Army's goal is to install HBSS on 100% of all Enterprise NIPR and SIPR workstations and servers that have a Microsoft operating system platform or to have a coverage plan in place for those systems without HBSS to ensure that they maintain the security level that HBSS provides.  The HBSS Enterprise solution will be deployed down to the Tier III level.  This Information Exchange Forum (IEF) provides an overview of the Army Enterprise HBSS Implementation on NIPR and SIPR networks, key features and benefits, best practices, And lessons learned followed by a Question and Answer (Q&A) session to address questions and comments from the forum attendees.
