Biography of Mr. Phillip A. (Phil) Dyer, CFP®
Deputy Director of Financial Education (Benefits Information Department)
Mr. Dyer is a 1985 graduate from the United State Military Academy at West Point and holds a BS in Engineering. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant, Armor Branch, and served with the 3rd Armored Division, 1st Battalion, 32nd Armor and 4th Battalion, 67th Armor in Germany with duty assignments of mortar platoon leader, M1A1 tank platoon leader, M1A1 tank company executive officer and battalion adjutant. Mr. Dyer also served as the project officer for the 50th Anniversary of the Armored Force under G-3/DPTM, Ft. Knox, KY.
Mr. Dyer attended the Armor Officer Basic and Armor Officer Advance Course at Ft. Knox, KY and the Army Airborne School at Ft. Benning, GA. His awards include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Meritorious Service Medal. He separated from active duty in 1990 after attaining the rank of captain to pursue opportunities in the private sector.
Mr. Dyer spent seven years with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals as an institutional healthcare consultant before transitioning to financial planning. He has operated as a fee-only financial planner since 1997 and received the Certified Financial Planner® designation in 1999. Mr. Dyer specializes in financial education, employee benefits and military-to-civilian transition educational programs. He has conducted over 300 educational briefings for corporate, non-profit, military and educational organizations over the last 10 years.
Mr. Dyer joined the staff of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) as Deputy Director of Financial Education (Benefits Information Department) in August 2003. He resides with his family in Hunt Valley, MD.
