The USS Midway was commissioned on September 10, 1945. Over the next 47 years, more than 200,000 American veterans served aboard her during the Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and a number of other conflicts. The USS Midway remained on station and responded to every call – both military and humanitarian. No other carrier served as long as the USS Midway. The USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum serves as San Diego's tribute to the contributions of the armed services and as a dynamic, interactive beacon of education and entertainment.
