Welcome to the winter edition of the AFCEA Intelligence Watch — the Association’s online newsletter designed to keep you informed of activities and services supporting Intelligence Professionals. Please take a moment and scan the table of contents to the left and see which activities may be of interest to you. As part of the extended AFCEA International family, AFCEA Intelligence provides linkage to 31,000 individual members, over 1,600 corporate members, and 130 chapters worldwide focused on command, control, communications and intelligence... and their interconnectedness. We provide a common ground for learning that is unquestioned in its integrity and unequaled in the breadth of its relationships. Thanks for letting us serve you!
The AFCEA Spring Intelligence Symposium will take place on April 16-17, 2008, in the Defense Intelligence Analysis Center (DIAC) on Bolling AFB, Washington DC. Working closely with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, the event theme is “Removing the Barriers between National and Military Intelligence.” Although the event is sold out you can sign up for the wait list.
Continuing a series started in 2003, AFCEA and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency will co-sponsor NGA Industry Day on September 18, 2008. The day will feature the NGA leadership talking about where the Agency is headed in the next 3-5 years. The goal of the day is to educate members of industry about NGA business opportunities so they can be more informed partners in serving NGA and supporting the warfighter. Watch the AFCEA Intelligence Website for upcoming details.
On December 4, 2007, in Sunnyvale, CA, AFCEA in partnership with the FBI hosted its first Counterintelligence Conference. The event was sold out and included a “Who’s Who” in the counterintelligence world. The program focused on educating U.S. companies about the foreign espionage threat they face and what they can do to protect their intellectual property and proprietary technology. Look for more from AFCEA Intelligence in this important area. Joe Mazzafro continues to poke and prod the Intelligence Community in his monthly AFCEA Intelligence Blogs. His most recent entry is entitled “I Wish You Wouldn’t Bring Those Issues Up?” Joe’s thoughtful commentaries are well worth a read and are offered to stimulate your response.
As part of its outreach and to encourage a greater sense of unity within the broader Intelligence Community, AFCEA Intelligence established an annual writing contest to promote thoughtful discussion on topics of importance to the Intelligence Community and national security. The 2008 winners have now been selected and the prizes awarded. Each year at about this time, AFCEA seeks to identify and honor intelligence professionals who are making a difference in the intelligence and national security arena. There are two levels of recognition: a senior level award (one winner) and a mid-level award (two winners). Nominees do not have to be AFCEA members. Nominations can come from anyone, and the online forms are easy to complete. This is your chance to recognize someone you know who is making a difference.
AFCEA’s nightly worldwide intelligence summary, provided in partnership with dNovus RDI, continues to attract attention and readers. In less than one year, the nightly readership has grown to over 2,000. The service is free and is delivered direct to your email inbox early each morning. In about two pages, it’s the perfect way to get caught up on what’s happening in the world. It’s easy to sign up. Did you know that AFCEA International has over 1,600 corporate members? That’s a lot of expertise. AFCEA Intelligence showcases intelligence companies through exhibiting and sponsorship opportunities at its events. In addition, select companies are featured on the AFCEA Intelligence website. Each month Signal Magazine, AFCEA’s award winning journal, features articles exploring the Intelligence Community and its issues. In addition, a search feature lets you explore the extensive Signal archive.
