Welcome to the Fall 2013 edition of Intelligence Watch, AFCEA’s e-newsletter designed to keep you informed of activities and services supporting intelligence professionals.

This issue includes details about upcoming AFCEA Intelligence events, including the rescheduled annual Fall Intelligence Symposium, intelligence industry days co-sponsored with each of the U.S. military services, the AFCEA Global Intelligence Forum in Brussels, and more.

In the current fiscally constrained environment, AFCEA’s mission of bringing government and industry together is more important than ever. If you look at its event offerings, you will see that each one is designed to provide government agencies a platform to communicate with industry about their needs and companies opportunities to hear about the government’s priorities. AFCEA has been building bridges between the public and private sectors since 1946, and AFCEA Intelligence continues that tradition.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and I want to express our gratitude for your support of AFCEA Intelligence.  We consider it a special privilege to serve intelligence professionals and their community.

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming AFCEA Intelligence event!

Steve Ritchey
Vice President for Intelligence

Winter Intelligence Symposium to Replace Cancelled Fall Symposium

In October, the AFCEA Fall Intelligence Symposium (Decision Advantage in a Changing World) was cancelled due to the government shutdown. On February 13, 2014, AFCEA Intelligence is bringing it back as the Winter Intelligence Symposium! We have shortened the event to one day to encourage attendance, retained the classified program focus and a majority of the speakers, and made sure there will be plenty of exhibiting and networking time! The symposium will use the National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends 2030 paper not to discuss the intelligence environment of 2030, but as a starting point to explore the steps the Intelligence Community needs to take within the next decade to remain relevant.  The event will take place in the Johns Hopkins Kossiakoff Center, Laurel, Maryland, right near Fort Meade!

For exhibiting and sponsorship information, please contact J. Spargo & Associates, Paul doCarmo - Companies A - L / Connie Shaw - Companies M - Z or (703) 631-6200. Program details and registration are now online.

AFCEA Global Intelligence Forum (Brussels)

On December 10-11, 2013, the second annual AFCEA Global Intelligence Forum (Brussels) will explore what new intelligence approaches and capabilities are required to meet Europe’s collective security needs. The Forum will bring together speakers from European security organizations, including non-NATO and non-EU partners, law enforcement partners, traditional defense and security organizations, and the industry that supports them. Day One will focus on the broader, over-arching issues that Europe and its close partners face and how intelligence and the private sector can be leveraged to meet national and collective requirements. Using the cyber domain as an example, Day Two will focus on what intelligence organizations need to do to meet these challenges through a better use of intelligence and technology.

For exhibiting and sponsorship information, please contact Gretchen Eisenhower at (703) 631-6219 or Program details and registration are now online.

More Service Intelligence Industry Days in 2014

Building on the very successful 2013 sold-out series, AFCEA Intelligence will present four Service Intelligence Industry Days in 2014 – one each for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Each day will be co-sponsored by AFCEA Intelligence and the Service Intelligence component. This official partnership helps ensures that the days' content is current and relevant and provides the best business intelligence available. In the past each of these events has sold out with audiences of more than 500. All the speakers are senior government leaders who present their briefs and then stay the rest of the day to network and interact with the attendees. Attendees leave with a greater understanding of what technologies, capabilities, and services are most needed by the military components.

If you would like information about becoming an AFCEA industry partner for one or more of these events, please contact J. Spargo & Associates, Paul doCarmo - Companies A - L / Connie Shaw - Companies M - Z or (703) 631-6200.

Air Force Intelligence Industry Day

Next up in the Service Intelligence Industry Day Series, is the Air Force ISR Industry Day co-sponsored by AFCEA Intelligence and the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Headquarters U.S. Air Force.  This one-day, classified (Secret) forum will examine the state of ISR in the Air Force and among its mission partners.  This event will be held in the TASC Heritage Conference Center, Chantilly, Virginia, on February 26, 2014 and will showcase what the Air Force is doing to achieve a global ISR capability and where it is looking for help from industry. General Mark Welsh III, USAF, Chief of Staff, is the confirmed keynote speaker.

For sponsorship information, please contact Tina Vicioso or (703) 631-6250 . Program details and registration are now online.

AFCEA EPIC Committee: Intelligence for Young Professionals

On October 30, 2013, AFCEA’s Emerging Professionals in Intelligence Committee (EPIC) held the third event in its EPIC Speakers Series. The sold-out, two-hour session focused on the relationship between the U.S. Intelligence Community and law enforcement. EPIC is the counterpart of the long-established AFCEA Intelligence Committee that focuses on topics of particular interest to younger professionals in the intelligence community.
