Intelligence and National Security Summit

AFCEA Intelligence and the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) have joined forces to co-host a new event called The Intelligence and National Security Summit (Summit). This two-day conference and exposition will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington, D.C., September 18-19, 2014. The Summit will bring together national thought leaders from the federal and private sectors for a dialogue on intelligence effectiveness, transparency and accountability in the information age. Over the two days, the event will feature five plenary sessions, 16 breakout sessions, and over 70 speakers starting with DNI James Clapper and closing with FBI Director James Comey. This combined and expanded event will replace AFCEA’s Fall Intelligence Symposium and INSA’s Intelligence Community Summit.

Registration is now open, plus there are exhibiting and sponsorship opportunities.

AFCEA Intelligence Committee Seeks New Members

Are you a member of the private sector interested in serving on the AFCEA Intelligence Committee?  The AFCEA Intelligence Committee is a group of about 60 government and industry volunteers that helps oversee the association’s outreach to intelligence professionals and the Intelligence Community. The committee provides an interactive forum for sharing ideas that helps strengthen the public/private partnership and national and global security. The application deadline is June 30.

More Intelligence Industry Days

Building on the very successful sold-out intelligence industry day series, AFCEA Intelligence is planning more industry days with each of the military services and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. This official partnership helps ensure that the information presented during these industry days is current, relevant, and provides the business intelligence available. Attendees leave the events with a greater understanding of what technologies, capabilities, and services are most needed by the intelligence organizations.

If you would like information about becoming an AFCEA industry partner for one or more of these events, please contact Matthew Darnell at or 703-631-6200.

SIGNAL Magazine's Focus on Intelligence

Each month, SIGNAL Magazine, AFCEA’s award-winning monthly journal, includes articles focused on topics of interest to intelligence professionals and companies that support the Intelligence Community. Here is a sample of articles in the current issue:

National Security Agency Program Fills Critical Cyber Skills Gaps

The first graduates are emerging from centers of excellence for cyber operations that teach the in-depth computer science and engineering skills necessary to conduct network operations. The program better prepares graduates to defend networks and should reduce the on-the-job training needed for new hires, saving both time and money.

Intelligence Generates a Cyber Picture

The borderless world of cybersecurity now is benefitting from geospatial intelligence products. The U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has joined the fight against cyber marauders by providing imagery to help cyber warriors track down online adversaries. Experts defending the United States from cyber attack abroad have a new tool in their kit by being able to see the facility from which digital malefactors are plying their wares.

Military Evaluates Future Cyberforce

Cybersecurity remains a priority for the U.S. Defense Department, with officials protecting resources for it in the face of overall budget constraints. Guidance from the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014 directs a mission analysis of cyber capabilities not only in the active military, but also across partners, to help forces maintain their edge in protecting the nation.
