Continuing Education Lunch and Learn Launches

In June, the chapter's Young AFCEANs unveiled a new Continuing Education Lunch and Learn series. The chapter's Young AFCEAN chair, Tech. Sgt. Joshua Copeland, USAF, established the program to provide a free venue to the local community wherein information technology professionals could earn credits toward maintaining their existing certifications. For the program's inaugural presentation, the Young AFCEANs invited Scott Vines of Logic Nation, who is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), a Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) and a software developer. He earned his Bachelor of Science in computer science from the U.S. Air Force Academy and served eight years as an Air Force communications officer. In his presentation, “Hacking 101: A Demonstration of Common Cyber Threats,” Vines performed a live demonstration of common hacker techniques including anonymization via The Onion Router (TOR) and Invisible Internet Protocol (I2P), a Man-in-the-Middle attack via Network Basic Input/Output System (NETBIOS) poisoning, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) bypassing, Structured Query Language (SQL) server injection and a cross-site scripting attack. Thirty-three professionals from Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport businesses and the surrounding community attended the free event and can claim one hour of professional certification credits for their attendance.
