Panel on Health IT
The chapter's 5th Annual Warfighter Support IT Day in August concluded with a panel of distinguished requirements experts spanning the Interagency Program Office (IPO), the Defense Department/Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Interagency Program Office and the Open Source Electronic Health Record Agency (OSEHRA) to discuss the issues, challenges and priorities impacting the health information technology industry. Moderated by Lt. Gen. James B. Peake, USA (Ret.), M.D., the event panel included: Barclay P. Butler, Ph.D., director of the IPO; Capt. Michael Weiner, USN, director of clinical informatics at the IPO; Susan Perez, program manager, integrated electronic health record, Defense Department/VA IPO; and Dr. Seong K. Mun, Ph.D. The panel kicked-off by introducing the overarching goal of the VA/Defense Department Joint Executive Council: High Quality Health Care, which is to improve the access, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of health care for beneficiaries through collaborative activities. Attendees were excited to see plenty of areas for collaboration with key themes being agile development and open source as they pertain to the health information technology market.
