Young AFCEANS Explore Social Engineering

In August, the chapter's Young AFCEAN chair, Tech. Sgt. Joshua Copeland, USAF, facilitated its second Continuing Education Lunch and Learn. Established in June, the program provides a free venue to the local community wherein information technology professionals could earn credits toward maintaining their existing certifications. For the program's August presentation, the Young AFCEANs invited Robert Bills of Ohms Systems Incorporated, a COMPTIA Certified Security+ IT Professional. He earned his bachelor of science in computer science and retired as a master sergeant. In his presentation, "Social Engineering: Hacking People For Fun And Profit," Bills led an interactive discussion on the various methods and reasons social engineering not only happens but is so successful. Thirty local professionals from Barksdale Air Force Base, Shreveport businesses and the surrounding community attended the free event and can claim one hour of professional certification credits for their attendance.
