Colonel Discusses Network Challenges

Col. Amando E. Gavino Jr., USAF, director of communications and chief information officer, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency, served as guest speaker during the chapter's October luncheon event. He discussed details of the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System and the future of the legacy ATM network. With regard to facing challenges, Col. Gavino stated, “Find a way.” The chapter also is preparing for its 3rd annual Alamo AFCEA Conference and Expo (AACE) to be held December 4-7, 2012, at the Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio, Texas. The AACE will open with a golf tournament on December 4 to benefit Operation Comfort, a San Antonio wounded warrior project, followed by two days of expert panels and speakers, and concluding with a small business summit on December 7. The conference theme, “Mission Assurance in a Changing Global Environment,” will include sessions on cyberspace, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, medical information technology, and education and training.
