Event Highlights Women in Intelligence

The chapter's Women in Intelligence Group (WIIG) hosted a networking social at Nottinghams in Columbia, Maryland, in March. More than 65 women and men attended to network and socialize with other members of the intelligence community, including representatives from AFCEA International. Fred Rainbow, executive director of the AFCEA Educational Foundation, commented, “I was impressed with the AFCEA members who attended and the energy level in the room. The Central Maryland Chapter is moving out smartly on many fronts, and the Women In Intelligence clearly is off to a great start." Attendees spent time with colleagues and made new connections over lite fare and drinks thanks to the generosity of sponsors Minerva Engineering and DK Consulting. The chapter was very impressed and pleased to see so many women leaders from the community in attendance at the WIIG happy hour. Having such a diverse group of leaders from the government and industry, large and small businesses to include executives, program managers, technical leads and business leaders, provided for significant networking, collaboration and follow-up opportunities for the attendees, said Rosemary Budd, director, strategic programs, Lockheed Martin IS&GS National. The chapter’s WIIG provides a forum for women of all career levels and disciplines to address gender-specific challenges in the work place, lessons learned and best practices. Through networking events, seminars and education initiatives, the WIIG works especially hard at preparing talented women for leadership within the intelligence community.
