Chapter Rewards Schools, Teachers and Students

The chapter hosted its awards night in May at Martins Crosswinds in Maryland with more than 350 attendees. A culmination of the members’ tireless work and dedication to raise money throughout the year to reward schools, teachers and students for their achievements, the chapter kicked off the event with a presentation from Dr. Robert Young, cybersecurity and information technology specialist, Defense Information Assurance Program, Office of the Secretary of Defense. Banking fraud, socializing, identity theft and online stalking peppered with humorous tales from his personal experience kept the audience in stitches as Young explained, “What you don’t know online can hurt you.”

Prestigious scholarships were awarded to several students from local schools, including Keenan Albee (Franklin High School); Weston Carvalho (Winters Mill High School); Kathleen Cooley (Broadneck High School); Kendra Graham (Atholton High School); Micah Jaffe (Science & Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School); Peter Kruse (Mount Hebron High School); Rebecca Mount (Archbishop Spalding High School); Karl Schmidt (Mount Hebron High School); Thomas Stefany (South River High School); Charles Parker (Eastern Technical High School); Blair Chisholm (Atholton High School); Gabriella Farley (River High School); Jamilyah Daiyaan (Perry Hall High School); Jenny Wagner (Meade High School); Tyler Ruff (Atholton High School); Joseph Peterson (Reservoir High School); and Evan McCarter (Catonsville High School).

The chapter also presented Teacher Toolkits to Archbishop Spalding High School and River Hill High School. Archbishop Spaulding High School, Oakland Mills High School, Patuxent Valley Middle School and Saint John the Evangelist were the recipients of the Adopt-A-School Program. The chapter thanked everyone who made the night possible so that the chapter can continue to provide support to the community.
