ALAMO CHAPTER CHAPTER - Jun 21, 2013

Golf Tournament Benefits STEM Funds

The chapter hosted a farewell golf tournament in honor of retiring Maj. Gen. Suzanne Vautrinot, USAF, 24th Air Force commander, in June. The event at Joint Base San Antonio-Lacklands Gateway Hills Golf Course paired military and industry leaders on four-man teams for a shamble-style tournament with Peoria scoring, and the event netted some $4,000 to benefit the AFCEA International Educational Foundation and the chapter's science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarship programs. A special scholarship will be awarded in Gen. Vautrinot's name to a deserving student at the Alamo ACE (annual chapter event) in November. The chapter thanks its corporate sponsors who helped to make this event possible: M2 Technology Inc. and First Command (platinum sponsors); EMC, Intelligent Decisions and Telos Corp. (gold); and Blue Coat Federal, Crystal Clear Technologies and SecureInfo (silver). The June golf benefit also served as a proof-of-concept event for future chapter spring fundraisers for STEM causes, Bill Robinson, chapter corporate affairs chairman, says.
