Conference Showcases Student Work

Under the auspices of the CGS of the Polish Armed Forces and in cooperation with the European Defense Agency (EDA) and the Warsaw Military University of Technology (MUT), a three-day conference took place in Warsaw, Poland, in late May. The conference theme was “Information Society—the Need for Powerful telecommunication Systems,” and the event was run in conjunction with the International Electronic Telecommunication Conference of Students and Young Scientists. After the success of last year's conference in Prague, it was great to once again see delegates from so many countries including France, Poland, Greece, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, UAE and the Netherlands. The conference provided an opportunity for AFCEAN undergraduate, masters and Ph.D. students to present short papers to a Scientific Committee, chaired by the vice rector of MUT, Professor Jaroslav Rukowski, and the assembled audience. Thirty students took the opportunity and delivered a broad portfolio of papers ranging from how organizations can exploit big data to how new and emerging technologies could be utilized to deliver and satisfy users demands for increased processing and bandwidth. Jolanta Woś from the American College of Greece won the first prize for a presentation entitled “The application of edge of chaos scenario planning practices for the ICT sector,” with runner up prizes also being awarded to George Chatzitheodosiou (American College of Greece) and Adam Nohej (Police Academy, Prague). The student conference received significant support and sponsorship from the Warsaw Military University of Technology, AFCEA Europe and its principle sponsor, Google. This support ensured that prizes could be awarded and that student events, including a memorable visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum, a BBQ, and farewell Dinner, could take place.
