Capt. John W. Chandler, USN, a native of Monticello, Arkansas, was commissioned in 1987 through the U.S. Naval Academy. He has been the commander of Naval Network Warfare Command and Task Force 1010 since October 2011. Capt. Chandler delivered a thought-provoking topic to the chapter membership in August titled “Navy Network Operations: Now and Next Generation.” Emphasizing that the mission of Naval Network Warfare Command (NNWC) is to execute tactical-level command and control of Navy networks and to leverage joint space capabilities for Navy and joint operations. Capt. Chandler further noted that the NNWC operates the Navy's networks to achieve effective command and control through optimal alignment, common architecture, mature processes and functions, and standard terminology. Through the ability to enhance network security posture improves information technology services through standardized enterprise-level management, network information assurance compliance, enterprise management, and root cause and trend analysis. The captain accentuated the service of the NNWC to deliver enhanced space products to operating forces by leveraging Defense Department, national, commercial and international space capabilities and serves as the Navy's commercial satellite operations manager. Lastly, he highlighted how all Tidewater area Navy Cyber commands are being relocated to former Joint Forces Command campus, which will consolidate the NNWC on a single campus.
