Local JAG Shares Views on Ethics

In August, the chapter’s Young AFCEAN Advisory Council (YAAC) welcomed Lt. Col. Michelle Crawford, USAF, judge advocate general, Program Executive Office, Business Enterprise Systems (PEO BES), as a Business over Breakfast guest speaker. Col. Crawford gave her thoughts on the event topic, “How to Legally be a Good Government and Industry Partner.” Upon taking the floor, Col. Crawford quickly put the diverse audience of military and industry professionals at ease. She encouraged companies to utilize the resources readily available to them in order to gain a better understanding of the government’s requirements and processes. She also pointed out that the multiple contracting offices in a variety of military bases were a valuable resource for companies to gain information and assistance. The audience then inquired about the aftermath of the furloughs. Col. Crawford responded that overall morale for both industry and government was hurt but both sides can work to support each other. The legal community will do its part to help bridge the gap; the government can assist by informing industry of what contracts are coming and industry can assist by asking questions and working directly with the contracting offices. She also mentioned the importance of dedication and participation from senior leadership in supporting both industry and government, which facilitates effective processes and teamwork between government and industry. The audience appreciated Col. Crawford’s positive demeanor, outlook for the future and her ability to communicate effectively. The YAAC thanks her for donating time to speak to local River Region professionals, and the chapter looks forward to the next Business over Breakfast event.
