Instructor Awarded STEM Teaching Tools Grant

In September, the chapter’s Education Foundation proudly awarded Dr. Erinn Camille Fears Floyd a $1,000 STEM Teaching Tools Grant. This is Floyd’s second consecutive STEM Teaching Tools Grant, following her $5,000 STEM Scholarship Award in May 2012. Dr. Floyd currently serves in Macon County as the gifted specialist under the Special Education Program Department, Macon County Board of Education. These funds will assist in purchasing Lego Robots for classrooms across Tuskegee and the promotion of information technology enhanced learning across Macon County. These will help teachers across Macon County continue to enhance Pre-Robotics Engineering and Programming teaching across grades 6-12. The chapter’s Education Foundation advocates students engaging with information technology in the classroom and continues to issue various science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarships and grants to local instructors pursuing post-graduate degrees in STEM-related fields. Instructors who receive these scholarships and grants are not only academically STEM-driven but also are teaching in disadvantaged, minority areas within the River Region. By working with these invaluable instructors, the Education Foundation is able to directly reach underprivileged schools by exposing deserving, bright young minds to the ever-evolving world of information technology and by providing hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art technology. The chapter Education Foundation is thrilled to have the opportunity to provide Floyd and other dedicated instructors with vital funding to support STEM-related education and looks forward to continued opportunities to support them in the future.
