Networking Event Connects Women in Intelligence

The Women in Intelligence Group (WIIG) Social events continue to grow by bringing in new participants and sponsors to chapter programs. In October, more than 50 professionals who support the mission in and around Fort Meade gathered to share food, beverages and camaraderie even with the federal government shutdown. With the sponsorship of Bridges Consulting, the event attendees enjoyed great food and beverages at Union Jacks in Columbia Maryland. While many of the attendees were current and long time members of the WIIG, almost half of the attendees were new to any AFCEA program. I'm new to AFCEA, and I got a lot out of speaking with the attendees last night. I really like the ideas behind the WIIG and will be attending more events in the coming months, said Nora Humm, chief operating officer/comptroller, The Tabis Group. Many of the new members were excited by renewing former relationships and connected with other women who work on similar programs or in similar companies who they had not had a chance to network with before. Outreach to professional women in the community has bolstered many of the WIIG programs. The Women in Intelligence community members enjoy the variety of programs offered from the book club and social events to the speaker series. Several of the attendees at the social event last evening had participated in the most recent WIIG Book Club in September. So far this year, there have been a total of four WIIG Social events, which have been sponsored by Lockheed Martin, GANTECH Federal, DK Consulting and Minerva Engineering. The social events occur every other month with the next event on December 3 sponsored by InfoTek followed by the first event of 2014 on February 4 sponsored by Varen Technologies. Exciting lists of potential sponsors have already step forward to host the remaining WIIG Social events for the year.
