School With Space Week Receives STEM Grant

In October, the chapter held a busy general membership meeting. The luncheon began with Col. Kelly Crooks, USAF (Ret.), regional vice president for Texas, presenting the chapter its Model Chapter of the Year streamer. Next, West Ward Elementary School received a $1,000 check for its science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) efforts in the areas of space research and robotics. Accepting the check was the school principal, Maureen Adams. West Ward Elementary School holds an annual Space Camp week, which attracts participation from across the country and internationally. Col. James C. Parks III, USA, commander of the 11th Signal Brigade, followed by presenting a briefing on Army efforts to modernize the information technology infrastructure at its many posts, camps and stations, and in particular, Fort Hood. He spoke of the many challenges associated with this effort but also highlighted some of the successes so far as well as the promising road ahead.
