Cyber Challenges and Opportunities in Global Strike Command

In March, the chapter was honored to host Arthur G. Hatcher Jr., director of communications for Air Force Global Strike Command, as guest speaker for its monthly membership luncheon. Hatcher is a member of the Senior Executive Service who spent 30 years on active duty with the Air Force and currently leads the staff responsible for managing cyberspace, information technology infrastructure and knowledge operations supporting 24,000 personnel. His previous service includes experience on the Joint Staff, a combatant command and two major commands. He commanded an air expeditionary group, a communications group and two communications squadrons. In his presentation, “Cyber Challenges and Opportunities in Global Strike Command,” Hatcher highlighted the rapidly changing nature of the cyber arena; its implications on evolving global threats; the challenges each pose to the Global Strikes unique nuclear mission; and his directorate's way forward to meet those challenges. Among his directorate's broad purview are 14 Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications systems supporting B-2, B-52 and Intercontinental Ballistic Missile systems and functional management of more than 1,700 cyber personnel. During the chapter business portion of the luncheon, Dean Fox, Texas regional vice president, recognized Lt. Timothy Hoffman, USAF, as the region's Young AFCEAN of the Year. In his first visit to the chapter as its regional vice president, Fox noted his admiration for the chapter's impressive esteem and awards, as well as those of its members like Lt. Hoffman. In the meetings closing remarks, Kevin Smith, chapter executive vice president, reminded the chapter that its annual scholarship banquet will host renowned speaker Simon Sinek on April 25 at 11:00 in lieu of the month's regularly scheduled luncheon, followed by its annual invitational golf tournament on May 2.
