WASHINGTON DC CHAPTER CHAPTER - Nov 17, 2014

Chapter Recognizes AFCEANS of the Month

Sarah Djamshidi and Carmen McCarthy, two women with exemplary leadership skills and deeply involved in the government and government IT contracting industry, were chosen as the AFCEAN and Young AFCEAN, respectively, for the month of November. Djamshidi, managing director, National Capital Companies, and president and managing partner, SpeedShift Ventures, has been a great supporter of the chapter's Cyber and Emerging Technology summits and has contributed her expertise to running the innovation contests hosted at Summit Days held throughout the year. She coached each of the winning companies and worked to fine-tune their pitch, enabling them to deliver their message in a dynamic, concise manner. These contests provide an important chance for the chapter's member companies to showcase their product/solution set to a large audience and gain immediate exposure. Professionally, Djamshidi serves as the executive director of the Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), the nation's first homeland, national and cyber security accelerator, where she lead the turnaround of the organization after being recruited by CIC's board of directors.

Carmen McCarthy, federal account manager, Kforce, joined AFCEA in February 2013 and immediately began engaging in the chapter, volunteering at the registration desk for luncheons and symposiums and for the AFCEA International Homeland Security Conference. McCarthy is serving as the co-chair for the Young AFCEANs for Winter Gala this year and assisted with the planning and running of the very successful Young AFCEAN-hosted Professional Development Panel with the Defense Information Systems AGency. McCarthy works as a federal account manager for Kforce Inc., maintaining a portfolio of small, medium, and large government integrators across civilian, Defense Department and intelligence verticals, providing key professional services support.
