Air Force General Tackles Network Security

The chapter closed out its luncheon speaker series with a hot topic in December. The speaker was Maj. Gen. (select) Robert Skinner, USAF, deputy commander, Joint Force Headquarters Department of Defense Information Networks (JFHQ-DODIN). Gen. Skinner discussed how the JFHQ-DODIN is organized, operates and the efforts they are taking to secure the DOD networks. Gen. Skinner is responsible for the command and control of defensive cyberspace activities focusing on unity of command and unity of effort within the Defense Department. He assists the commander with organizing, training and equipping the JFHQ-DODIN military and civilian force, who in turn is responsible for securing, operating and defending the DOD's information networks. Gen. Skinner was commissioned through Officer Training School in 1989. He has served in various tactical and fixed communications assignments, plans, policy and resource staff work. The general has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels, and served on the staffs at a numbered air force, major command headquarters, Air Force headquarters and the Joint Staff. Prior to assuming his current position, Gen. Skinner was the chief of staff, Defense Information Systems Agency, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. At the luncheon, the chapter also inducted the 2017 officers. The sponsors were AT&T; Evanhoe & Associates; Inc.; Segue Technologies; MITRE Corporation; and Today's Technical Solutions Inc.
