ARGENTINA CHAPTER Chapter • Jun 05, 2007

In June members of the chapter visited the Liceo Militar General San Martín in Buenos Aires as the inaugural trip in the chapter's Opening Minds to Technologies program. The program was started after the chapter received the AFCEA Educational Foundation Chapter Initiative Grant in 2006, as a way to foster interest in studying sciences such a math, physics and chemistry and reinforce the importance in participating in the development of technology rather than simply being consumers. As part of the program the chapter will visit with high school students within institutions of the armed forces. Chapter member Luis Valle was the instructor of the 165 participating students, while Maj. Gen Francisco E. Machinandiarena, ARA (Ret.), chapter president, made the introduction. The chapter also visited 75 students in attendance at the Instituto Dámaso Centeno. At both visits the students were given MP3 players and pen drives as small gifts from the chapter..
