Maj. Gen. John W. Maluda, USAF, director, Secretary of the Air Force/Cyber Transformation and Strategy, served as the chapter's April guest speaker. Gen. Maluda is responsible for shaping the doctrine and strategies required to establish cyberspace as a warfighting domain. Also at the meeting, the chapter recognized the 2008 Science Teaching Tools Award winners. This program promotes greater student interest in science, mathematics and technology in schools throughout the Tidewater area, as well as the nation. The winners were: Sally Lovell, Poquoson Middle School; Ray Mattson, Bruton High School; Deborah B. Eckstein, York High School; and Lori Anderson, Grafton High School. In addition to these awards, the chapter also recognized Tidewater Science Fair winners Kierra Turner and Jasmine Berry for their project on "Spectroscopic Studies of Yb Doped Crystals for 1ym Lasers." Turner and Berry each received $50 and also will receive an AFCEA membership.
