High School Science Fair Winners Recognized

In March, the chapter participated in the 2008 Pikes Peak Regional Science Fair, which was held at the University of Colorado. The event hosted 240 junior- and senior-level high school students. As part of the overall mission of AFCEA, the chapter's goal is to encourage both scientific awareness and education. Every year, the chapter presents awards to students who exhibit excellence in scientific thought and industry in projects related to the association's command, control, communications, computers and intelligence disciplines, as well as related areas of emphasis. This year's junior-level winners, and their projects, were: Hannah Wardell (first place, $150), defeating passive infrared sensors; Rahul Shankar (second place, $100), cooperating robots; and Aidan Mike (third place, $75), electron flow. Senior-level winners were Dong-Kou Kim (first place, $150), piezo generator; Marlena Widman (second place, $100), junkyard multispectral imaging; and Sophie D'Arment (third place, $75), hydrofoils.
