Lockheed Martin Canada has been awarded two contracts totaling approximately C$2 billion for the installation, integration and long-term in-service support of a new combat system for Canada’s Halifax-Class frigates. The Combat Systems Integration contract will provide a new command and control system, radars, tactical data links, electronic support measures and other warfare capabilities for the Canadian Navy’s 12 Halifax-class frigates. Under the terms of the contract, Lockheed Martin also will maintain the current command and control systems until the entire fleet has received the retrofit.

Lockheed Martin has been awarded the Facilities Development and Operations Contract at the Johnson Space Center. The contract is worth up to $977 million if all options are exercised. Services will include the development, sustaining engineering, operations and maintenance of facilities supporting training, flight design, flight planning, reconfiguration and real-time operations for human space flight programs.

Lockheed Martin has received a $30 million U.S. Air Force contract for the development phase of the self-awareness space situational awareness technology demonstration program. Lockheed Martin will develop a technology demonstration payload to provide tactical space situational awareness with dedicated communications. The surveillance system will increase critical awareness of threats to U.S. satellites and will demonstrate the capability to control and manage up to eight instruments for operational systems implementation.

Lockheed Martin has been selected by the Office of the Secretary of Defense to provide information technology support across its Defense Media Activity organization. The contract is worth up to $59 million if all options are exercised. Lockheed Martin will manage and operate the network infrastructure, information security components, uninterruptible power systems, leased communication services, cable plant, telecommunications closets and equipment rooms, and cryptographic equipment.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is being awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for a maximum of $30 million for Versatile Affordable Advanced Turbine Engines (VAATE). The VAATE Phase II and III programs develop revolutionary and innovative technology by the 2017 time frame that will provide a 10X increase in turbo-propulsion affordable capability when carped to a year 2000 state-of-the-art baseline engine. To achieve this goal, the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Propulsion Directorate has committed resources to the development of an advanced technology base for aero-thermodynamics and innovative structures, the development of advanced components and the assessment and verification of these components in TRL—6 demonstrator engines.

Assurance Technology Corporation and Lockheed Martin Space Systems are being awarded cost-plus-incentive-fee/fixed-fee contracts for $29 million. This action will provide for self-awareness space situations awareness acquisition, which is born out of the U.S. Air Force’s need to provide threat-warning instruments or sensors for the nation’s space-based assets.

Lockheed Martin Corporation and the State of Qatar have signed a $393.6 million contract for the purchase of four C-130J Super Hercules airlifters plus training and spares. The package includes four aircraft, training of aircrew and maintenance technicians, spares, ground support and test equipment, and a team of technical specialists who will be based in Qatar during an initial support period.

The U.S. Army has exercised $152 million in contract options for 12 additional systems from Lockheed Martin in order to accelerate the fielding of the new Enhanced AN/TPQ-36 Counterfire Target Acquisition radar. The EQ-36 radars will detect, classify, track and determine the location of enemy indirect fire such as mortars, artillery and rockets in either 90-degree or 360-degree modes.

Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors is being awarded a $117.1 million, cost-plus-award-fee, fixed-fee contract for Aegis combat systems engineering to support the Government of Spain under the Foreign Military Sales program. Services will include the necessary combat systems engineering, computer program development, ship integration and test, logistics technical services and staging support to deliver a variant of the U.S. Navy Aegis Weapon System Cruiser Modernization Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Refresh 2 (CGM CR2) Computer Program and equipment to support the construction of the Spanish F-105 Frigate.

Lockheed Martin has received an $8.9 million contract from the U.S. Navy to produce and support low-cost conformal arrays (LCCAs) for use aboard submarines. The LCCA is a passive planar array mounted on the aft submarine sail structure and integrated with the Acoustic Rapid COTS Insertion (A-RCI) AN/BQQ-10 sonar system. It provides situational awareness and collision avoidance for improved tactical control in high-density shipping environments.
