Former AFCEA President Passes Away

Lt. Gen. C. Norman Wood, USAF (Ret.), also served as the publisher of SIGNAL Magazine.

Lt. Gen. C. Norman Wood, USAF (Ret.), former president and CEO of AFCEA International, passed away on June 8. The retired general headed AFCEA from 1996-2001, during which time he also served as the publisher of SIGNAL magazine.

Prior to coming to AFCEA, Gen. Wood was a senior vice president and general manager of BDM Federal Inc. in McLean, Virginia. There, he was responsible for national security and technology applications programs, resources and marketing with a focus on the intelligence community. 

His military career spanned 32 years and included more than 1,000 combat hours in Southeast Asia. Some of his significant assignments included executive director of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, director of intelligence (J-2) U.S. European Command, and deputy assistant chief of staff for intelligence at the Air Force Headquarters.

From 1990 to 1992, Gen. Wood chaired both the AFCEA Intelligence Advisory Council and the association’s Expansion Policy Committee. He was an associate director of the AFCEA Board of Directors in 1989-90 and in 1995 received the AFCEA Chairman’s Superior Performance Award.

He is survived by Elizabeth (B) Wood, wife; Wende Wood, daughter; Elizabeth (Lizzy) Wood, daughter; and Elizabeth (Libby), granddaughter.
