ViaSat Inc., has been awarded a U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center contract potentially valued at $29.9 million for tactical data link and satellite communications equipment and engineering support services. The contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy and the government of the Republic of Turkey  under the Foreign Military Sales program.

The U.S. Navy’s Task Force Cyber Awakening, which was established in July, is expected to deliver its first report to the service’s leadership this month, task force officials say. The report will include recommendations for improving the service’s cyber posture, both ashore and afloat.

U.S. Navy officials have revealed that the Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program office and the Office of Naval Research are experimenting with cloud computing to help reduce hardware on ships.

Exelis Inc., Clifton, N.J., is being awarded a $91,701,414 modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00019-12-C-0002) to exercise an option for the manufacture and delivery of 42 AN/ALQ-214(V)4 on-board jammer (OBJ) systems. The AN/ALQ-214(V)4/5 is an OBJ component of the integrated defensive electronic counter measures system. It is a self-protection radio frequency (RF) countermeasures system used by Navy F/A-18C/D/E/F strike fighter aircraft against RF guided surface-to-air and air-to-air threats (missiles). The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting.

DRS C3 and Aviation, Gaithersburg, Md., is being awarded a $8,222,300 firm-fixed-price contract for AN/SPS-67 (V)5 below-deck radar sets and an installation check-out kit for DDG 114, DDG 115 and DDG 116 . The radar set is a short range two dimensional, surface search/navigation radar system that provides highly accurate surface and limited low-flyer detection and tracking capabilities. The AN/SPS-67(V) provides C-Band radar navigation, station keeping/surface search functions, and a digital moving-target indicator. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, Ind., is the contracting activity.
