The fourth Inmarsat Global Xpress satellite successfully boosted into space Monday evening on a SpaceX Falcon rocket, adding broadband capabilities to a network of high frequency satellites.
The third Inmarsat Inc., Global Xpress satellite is now fully operational after reaching its final orbital position. Activation of the third satellite in a fleet of three provides complete global coverage of the company’s program to heighten global communication capabilities on land, at sea and in the air, according to a company statement.
Inmarsat Incorporated plans to launch the anticipated third satellite of its Global Xpress network August 28 from Kazakhstan, a re-do launch after a previous attempt had been delayed.

ADCI of Delaware LLC, Chevy Chase, Maryland; AOS Incorporated, Dallas, Texas; CapRock Government Solutions, Incorporated Fairfax, Virginia; Global Communication Solutions Incorporated, Victor, New York; and O'Gara Satellite Systems Incorporated, Rancho Palos Verdes, California, were awarded multiple award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts with a not-to-exceed ceiling of $65,750,000 to provide Inmarsat mobile satellite services for the Department of Defense combatant commands, services, and agencies, and as well as other federal agencies.
Inmarsat Navigation Ventures Limited, London, England, is being awarded an $18 million contract to develop and certify a transceiver terminal for the Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service provided by the I-4 constellation that is capable of operation from onboard a low earth orbit satellite; make appropriate modifications to the BGAN network to support space-based terminal equipment; support the integration of the space-based BGAN terminal with a government demonstration satellite; and support the on-orbit connectivity via the BGAN network for the demonstration satellite mission.
