Lockheed Martin to Provide Missile Defense Planner

The U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth approximately $8 million to provide an air and missile defense planner that will be integrated into the U.S. Air Force Air Operations Center (AOC), the company recently announced. Lockheed Martin’s planner will link dissimilar weapon and sensor data with map-based planning tools and decision aids that will allow AOC operators to collaboratively plan missions with greater speed and higher confidence.

General Dynamics Continues Abrams Tank Upgrades

The U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems $72.7 million under an existing contract to upgrade 12 M1A1 Abrams tanks to the M1A2 Systems Enhancement Package (SEP) V2 configuration. The M1A2 SEP V2 includes improved color displays, day and night thermal sights, commander remote operated weapon station (CROWS II), a Thermal Management System (TMS) and a tank-infantry phone. The original multi-year contract was awarded in February 2008, which authorized the upgrade of 435 M1A1 tanks that have been in the Army’s inventory for more than 20 years.

One of the primary projects included in this contract is to continue developing the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM). HYCOM is a new global, high-resolution ocean prediction system that improves situational awareness and the ability to predict future ocean environments.

Irish Navy Purchases Hand-Held Sonar System

The Irish Naval Service has acquired a NAVIGATOR Diver Held Sonar and Navigation System manufactured by Shark Marine Technologies Inc., of Ontario, Canada. The Irish Naval Service is the state’s principal seagoing agency. The Naval Service Diving Section (NSDS) is the primary state diving team, carrying out varied tasks for a number of state agencies. Members of the NSDS used the NAVIGATOR system whilst training with the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet diving unit.
