The ability to provide deep sensing for long-range fires, confront improvised explosive devices, increase the survivability of aircraft, protect forces, and conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, all hinges on an advanced tactical network on the battlefield.

SRC Inc., North Syracuse, New York, has been awarded a $13,472,364 modification (P00008) to exercise an option on contract FA7037-17-D-0001 for the Sensor Beam program. The contractor will research, analyze, technically document and perform reviews on electromagnetic systems, events and signatures required by all services and other U.S. agencies. Work will be performed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2021. No funds are being obligated at the time of award. Clarksburg, Maryland-based Robotic Research LLC, which specializes in autonomous and robotic technologies, will be supplying the company's warfighter localization sensors, known as WarLoc, to the U.S. Army Product Manager - Sets, Kits Outfits and Tools (PM-SKOT) under a $16.5 million contract. The company will deliver the WarLoc systems to equip four U.S. Army Brigade Combat Teams deployed in various locations. The solution provides advanced localization and positioning data in GPS-denied environments, and can be mounted on footwear, for use in ​underground facilities, inside of buildings and in mega-cities, the company reports. The procuring organization, PM SKOT, reports to the U.S.

As the number of electronic devices connected to the Internet grows, so does the security risk and the chance of data exfiltration by adversaries. Warfighters’ use of Internet of Things devices makes the military increasingly vulnerable, experts say. In addition, as the concentration of smart sensors and connected tools widens, the military may not be able to conduct unexpected operations.

Oceanit Laboratories Inc.,* Honolulu, Hawaii, is being awarded a $9,500,000 cost-plus-fixed-fee delivery order (N68335-19-F-0393) against a previously awarded basic ordering agreement (N68335-16-G-0028) in support of the deputy assistant secretary of defense for emerging capability and prototype technology. This order is for a Small Business Innovation Research Phase III effort for the continued development of a Prototype Test Unit (PTU) sensor for integration, test and demonstration with a non-kinetic system. The PTU sensor will incorporate the necessary hardware and software subsystems to demonstrate the viability of a novel defensive capability in an at-sea-demonstration aboard a Navy ship.

Deployable flood inundation sensors based on the Internet of Things are being developed to monitor flood-prone areas in real time to rapidly detect them and alert officials, industry and citizens to potential threats. State and local government jurisdictions operationally field tested early versions of the technology over a nine-month period. During the next phase, the sensors will be enhanced for production and commercialization to both domestic and international partners to help densify their flood sensing networks for alerts, warnings and notifications.

The primary work is to manufacture and deliver a tripod mounted electro-optical and infrared sensor that provides both daylight and night vision imagery for detecting, classifying, and identifying targets to be mounted on a variant of the ground based operational surveillance system. Under a four-year $45 million award, Herndon, Virginia-based ManTech will support the technical advancement of sensors used by the Naval Air Systems Command's (NAVAIR's) PMA-231 Program Office for the Hawkeye aircraft. Used by the Navy for over 50 years, the Hawkeye is considered "the eyes of the fleet," as it provides surveillance, identification and tracking of threat aircraft and cruise missile systems. In the effort, ManTech will support sensor development and provide sensor integration, as well as agile software engineering and development techniques to increase sensor performance in rapid-fire sprints and accelerate intelligence delivery.

Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems LLC, Orlando, Florida, has been awarded a maximum $80,000,000 firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the production and delivery of spare parts for the AN/VSQ-6B Vehicle Optics Sensor system. The award was a sole-source acquisition, and is for a five-year contract with no option periods. Location of performance is Florida, with a July 3, 2023, performance completion date. Using military service is the Army. Fiscal year 2018 through 2023 Army working capital funds are being used, as well as FYl 2018 through 2023 other procurement (Army) funds. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Strategic Technologies Office haw awarded four new task orders to Herndon, Virginia-based ManTech. The four contracts have a total value of $60 million, and are part of a $200 million multi-year IDIQ contract awarded to the company in 2017, ManTech reported. Under the task orders, ManTech will provide advanced systems engineering and technical assistance (SETA) support for DARPA initiatives across sensor enhancement, maritime defenses, radar and communications, and battle management control.
