Applied Research Laboratory, University of Hawaii, Menoa, Hawaii, is awarded a maximum value $77,209,225 five-year, sole source, cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, task order contract for research, development, engineering, and test and evaluation for programs throughout the Department of Defense. Running concurrently with the maximum ceiling announcement is an initial delivery order of $777,710. Work will be performed in Manoa, Hawaii, and is expected to be complete by May 2024. Fiscal 2019 research, development, test and evaluation (Navy) funding in the amount of a $777,710 will be obligated at initial delivery order and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
U.S. Defense Department personnel stationed in Hawaii will experience less latency and more communication features with the implementation of the Pacific Enterprise Services–Hawaii (PES-HI) Program in 2018.
PES-HI, which will be managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), will upgrade legacy analog communications to an almost-Everything over Internet Protocol (IP) technology base, according to a DISA announcement. Improvements include enterprise services, such as Voice and Video over Internet Protocol and web conferencing as well as collaboration services, including chat and presence.
ACI, Orlando, Florida, recently announced the award of a $2 million contract for the acquisition of 10 TrainAsYouFight simulation systems by the Hawaii Army National Guard. ACI's pilot installation of the Immersive Group Simulation system in 2008 marked the first time a state National Guard unit employed dismounted infantry simulation powered by gaming technology as an integrated feature of the training curriculum. ACI's TrainAsYouFight technology includes weapon instrumentation, wireless helmet-mounted displays, portable optical tracking technology, 60 gigahertz wireless high-definition video technology and 128-bit encryption.
Weston Solutions Incorporated, San Antonio, Texas, is being awarded a $10 million task order for installation of advanced metering infrastructure meters and supporting communication infrastructure for Navy Region Hawaii installations: Camp Smith; West Loch, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam; Lualualei; Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station; and associated work at Pacific Missile Range Facility. The objective is to have one regional data acquisition system located at Building 166, Pearl Harbor. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, is the contracting activity.
