The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has established a multiyear research plan to build 3-D models that leverage satellite imagery to support the nation’s military, humanitarian and intelligence missions. The Creation of Operationally Realistic 3-D Environment (CORE3D) program is intended to significantly reduce the time it takes to build 3-D models.

The challenge invites experts to develop deep learning and automation technologies to classify points of interest from satellite imagery. The goal is to promote research in object identification and classification to automatically identify facility, building and land use.

GeoEye Incorporated, Herndon, Virginia, a leading source of geospatial information and insight, announced the receipt of a $111 million cost-share payment from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). In early June, the company successfully passed a major milestone in their GeoEye-2 satellite's development as part of the NGA's EnhancedView program, triggering this cost-share payment. When operational in 2013, GeoEye-2 will collect at 34-centimeter resolution imagery and will provide cost-effective, shareable imagery for the U.S. government and other customers.

GeoEye Incorporated, Herndon, Virginia, a leading source of geospatial information and insight, announced that it is working with its Russian partner, ScanEx Research and Development Center, to provide millions of square kilometers of high-resolution satellite imagery to the Russian Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography (Rosreestr). To efficiently administer the property rights and data across Russia's vast landscape, Rosreestr is creating a countrywide base map of land properties in the Russian Federation.
