Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, Portsmouth, R.I., is being awarded a potential $199,692,601 fixed-price-incentive contract for the purchase of three AN/AQS-20A sonar, mine detecting sets with ancillary equipment. The AN/AQS-20A sonar, mine detecting set is a mine hunting and identification system with acoustic and identification sensors housed in an underwater towed body. The acoustic sensors are designed for the detection, classification and localization of bottom, close-tethered, and volume targets in a single pass. The identification sensor is designed for the identification of bottom mines.

Thales has signed a five-year contract with the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence to provide support for the Sonar 2050 anti-submarine sensor used on the Royal Navy’s Type 23 frigate fleet. Sonar 2050 is a medium-range bow sonar currently fitted to thirteen Type 23 frigates and is the Royal Navy’s primary hull-mounted anti- submarine warfare sensor. It also provides the ship with passive detection capabilities at lower frequencies. Thales will provide physical support of Sonar 2050 for operational defect rectifications, a worldwide 24/7 helpdesk support service, dry dock and afloat support, and test equipment and handling.

Lockheed Martin Corp., Mission Systems and Training, Manassas, Va., is being awarded an $84,650,745 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-13-C-6272) for fiscal 2014 Acoustic Rapid Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Insertion (A-RCI) production. A-RCI is a sonar system that integrates and improves towed array, hull array, sphere array, and other ship sensor processing, through rapid insertion of COTS based hardware and software.  The contract provides funding for the development and production of the A-RCI and common acoustics processing for technology insertion 14 (TI-14) for the United States submarine fleet.

ManTech International Corporation recently announced that it was awarded a $19.5 million contract by the U.S. Navy, Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Keyport Division, to provide engineering, programmatic and technical support services for Navy range acoustic test support programs, including the Surface Ship Radiated Noise Measurement and Fleet Sonar Self Noise programs. The contract has an initial one-year period and four one-year renewal options.
