Middletown, Rhode Island-based Rite-Solutions was awarded a 7-year, $21 million contract to provide the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command with development and engineering services on two submarine subsystems. Under the contract, Rite-Solutions will add new capabilities to the Inter Subsystem Monitoring Tool (ISMT) and the Onboard Team Trainer - Master Controller (OBTT-MC), which are both part of the AN/BYG-1 combat system. AN/BYG-1 is deployed on U.S. Navy submarines and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Collins Class Submarines. The Submarine Combat and Weapon Control Systems Program Office (PMS 425) at NAVSEA awarded the contract to Rite-Solutions after a year-long proposal process.

Sailors assigned to the Gold crew of the guided-missile submarine USS Ohio test the new submarine bridge trainer at Trident Training Facility Bangor in Washington.

A new submarine bridge trainer recently unveiled at the Trident Training Facility in Bangor, Washington, gives submarine bridge team members a learning experience through interaction with a complex visual and auditory environment.

"This is by far the most advanced trainer that I have experienced at TRITRAFAC [Trident Training Facility] Bangor," said Fire Control Technician 2nd Class Christopher Goetz, USN, assigned to USS Ohio Gold Crew, the test submarine crew for the new trainer. "With the 360-degree view, the vibrations you feel while on the bridge, the realistic wind and climate changes and the high-tech binoculars that let you see into the distance, it really prepares you for being on a real submarine.”

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors, Manassas, Virginia, is being awarded a potential $2 billion contract to design and manufacture hardware for the Acoustic Rapid Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Insertion (A-RCI) system improvement and integration program. The contract provides funding for the development and production of the A-RCI and common acoustics processing for the U.S. submarine fleet and for foreign military sales. A-RCI is a sonar system that integrates and improves towed array, hull array, sphere array, and other ship sensor processing, through rapid insertion of commercial off the shelf-based hardware and software. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

3 Phoenix Incorporated, Fairfax, Virginia, is being awarded a $14 million modification to previously awarded contract to provide engineering services to support software development, procurement of commercial off-the-shelf products, and hardware/software integration in support of Navy submarine and surface ship systems. This effort is for Phase III of a Small Business Innovative Research topic, "Real-time Data Fusion and Visualization Interface for Environmental Research Data." These services will be rendered as needed to support the Navy's initiative to maintain the pace of performance improvement through judicious use of lower power electronics, advanced algorithm design, and innovative applications of open software and hardware.

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $7 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy to develop advanced submarine technologies for current and future undersea platforms. Under this award Electric Boat will perform advanced submarine research and development studies in support of a wide range of technology areas including manufacturing, maintenance, survivability, hydrodynamics, acoustics and materials. Electric Boat also will conduct research and development work in areas such as manning, hull integrity, performance, ship control, logistics, weapons handling and safety.
