Northrop Grumman’s team is launching an open architecture testbed and seeking participants to create and test their own swarm-based tacking on the platform as part of DARPA’s OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics program.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is moving into the first development phase of its OFFensive Swarm-Enabled Tactics (OFFSET) program, a capability that will empower dismounted troops to control scores of unmanned air and ground vehicles simultaneously. Once fully evolved, the technology will provide small-unit infantry forces with small, unmanned aircraft and ground systems to support diverse missions in urban areas. The program also seeks to integrate modern swarm tactics and leverage emerging technologies in swarm autonomy and human-swarm teaming.

Nearly everyone has heard a parent or grandparent refer to the good ol’ days. Tales usually begin either with “When I was your age…” or “In my day, we didn’t have….” While it seems appropriate that octogenarians and nonagenarians tell such stories, today they’re not the only generations sharing memories that begin with, “When I was young….” People in their 20s and 30s reflect on their youth wistfully because members of the younger generation—who, by the way, are only five or 10 years younger than they are—can communicate, play, buy and sell, and share life moments in ways that surprise even 20-somethings.

Booz Allen Hamilton Incorporated, Herndon, Virginia, is being awarded three  contracts. The first is a $24,966,507 cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery requirements contract to perform research and development in order to complete and deliver the "Emerging Leading-Edge Technological Advancement of Intelligence Surveillance Recon Capabilities Report", "Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures Report" and wargame/exercise lessons learned reports. These deliverables will be used to ultimately increase the situational awareness and survivability of the warfighter by helping them to better identify battlefield threats.
